Green Lantern Fish

Okay, so imagine you're playing a game of hide and seek, and you decide to grab a bunch of flashlights, strap them to your belly, and then find a hiding spot while snickering to yourself saying, "IT'S ABOUT TO GET LIT!" .... Yeah...you'd get caught so fast (especially with all the snickering!). That would just never work...unless you were a lanternfish! But wait for a second...sounds a bit COUNTERintuitive to use light in the deep, dark ocean to hide?? Well, that is the magic of COUNTER-ILLUMINATION! At the depths that these fish live in, just enough light will still come down and cast a silhouette of the fish, allowing predators below to spot them. By sensing the brightness of the surrounding light, lanternfish will match the light coming from above to their photophores and in that way camouflage is achieved...if you have the WILL to achieve it ;)
